How Should You Dress For Church?
Many churches seem to have a dress code. In our church we want you to feel comfortable
and at home. It’s not a problem to come to church dressed casually. We do ask those in
leadership to dress more formally, but even that is still semi-causal. We never want
dress to be a problem for someone coming to church. OK, OK, a swim suit would be pushing
it, but shorts and a T-shirt is just fine. (Exception: For kids and teens, your mom
and dad set the standard.)
What Do I Do During Church?
We try our best to make our worship service “user friendly.” Our hope is that with
the upbeat music and the casual atmosphere that you will be able to relax and truly
experience the presence of God.
Singing:
We have the words for you in the bulletin and on overheads for everyone to be
able to sing along. If you fear someone hearing you just know that the Lord asks us to
“Sing a new song” and “to make a joyful noise.” Joyful doesn’t mean pleasant or
professional, just joyful for you. So let your voice sing out!
Scripture Reading: We provide a bible in the chairs for you to use. If you have your
own personal bible we think that is great but its not mandatory. If you don’t have a
bible of your own then feel free to take one. Read along with whoever is reading. Some times we ask you to read it out loud with us. SPECIAL TIP: When the Pastor uses a passage with his text keep your finger in the page when not using it. He will refer back to it from time to time and it will make your finding it again easier.
Prayer: We pray out loud so that we can all agree in prayer. We can have a time of silent prayer when all of us can voice from our hearts our own prayers. Also, we have one person lead in prayer so that we can all be praying for the same thing. The reason why people close their eyes during prayer is so that you can focus on Jesus while you prayer. No where in the bible do I see where it says you have to close your eyes. But it does make it better when you can close your eyes and concentrate on what's being prayed for. SPECIAL TIP: I like to use mental pictures from time to time of Jesus or the cross to help keep me focused in the right direction. Prayer is very personal and we need to respect the right of others to pray even if you don’t feel like praying. So help others by being quiet and try not to distract them from what they are doing.
What Is The Bulletin For?
The bulletin in our way of letting you know what is happening both in the life of the church and what the agenda for the morning is going to be. You will find the words to the songs we sing, the scripture reference for the sermon and it’s title, and you will find the listed activities for the week as well as our churches prayer concerns. Feel free to take it with you to help you remember what's going on in the life of the church. Also, having the words of the songs can help you in your daily devotional time to sing them over again as you worship God in your own private worship time.
What About My Baby Or Small Children?
At DOHCC we love kids. We have a pastor who is very excited about babies. Even when the cry during his sermon. We have found though that many young mothers need to know that we have a very capable nursery staff and that is more enjoyable for all if the baby is left in the nursery. Wouldn’t it be great if they had nursery attendants at the movies? If you feel the need to keep your baby with you feel free to do so. We just want you to know that we have this service provided for you each Sunday.
When Should I Call The Pastor?
Our pastor feels that he is on call at all times. He wants to be with you during those important times in your life. When you face difficult circumstances he wants to be informed just so he can pray for you. If you need him to be with you during a serious operation or just to come visit you in the hospital he is ready, willing, and able. If you just want a person who cares and you need some advice our pastor is a great one just to talk to and to get a second opinion from a biblical perspective. Our pastor wants to be there for you during those difficult times and joyful times.
Its time to call the pastor when:
your newborn baby arrives,
you are going into the hospital or facing some medical testing,
someone in your family dies,
when you or your children have get an award,
when you are throwing a party, (he just loves parties)
when you are moving and need some help,
when life has just got you down,
Can I Call The Pastor On His Day Off?
Your pastor loves people and he loves to serve. Calling on his day off you are less likely to get a hold of him. In fact when you call his house you are likely to get the message machine. When you do just leave a message. He really wants to hear from you and will get back to you as soon as he can. His family time is also very important to our pastor so unless it is an emergency he may wait to get back to you that evening or the next day. Keep in mind your pastor sees his family as his first congregation. When his family is doing well he can serve you better.
What Is The Prayer Chain And When Can I Call?
The prayer chain is a group of people who are committed to prayer. They are available to take a prayer request and are committed to praying for it that day. You should feel free to call when a big need arises in you or your families life. Contact Don or Adrienne Glaser or the church office to start the prayer chain. If you would like to join our prayer chain let Don & Adrienne know. We re-do the prayer chain once a year but if you would like to be added you can join anytime.
Can I Just Drop By The Church Office?
YES! Come by anytime. We keep regular hours Monday through
Thursday from 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. “Kathy comes in early and I stay late. There are many times that I am in on Saturday so if you see my vehicle feel free to drop by.” The best way is to make an appointment or to call ahead of time. That way I can give you my full attention. With the big churches in town you need to make an appointment a week or two in advance and then you probably won’t get to see the pastor. Not a DOHCC. Our pastor makes it a point to be available to you and to your family.
